Adaptational Nice Guy: While still little bit of a jerk, he is much less of a jerk than in most Madagascar-related media. Adaptational Heroism: An annoyance at best and antagonist at worst in other media, Julien here is still fairly selfish, but more willing to help others and do what's best for his kingdom. In this show, however, Julien has a much more proactive role and proves himself to be a pretty capable person when it comes to protecting his kingdom or simply defending himself. 
Adaptational Badass: In most Madagascar-related media, he is just a lazy, arrogant jerk and when something goes wrong, he seeks the help of others without doing anything about the problem himself. Ship Tease: While Clover insists she objects to Crimson and King Julien together as Crimson is a bad influence who may even by trying to take advantage of him, everyone suggests that she's simply jealous.The fun-loving prince of the lemurs, long dreaming of the day he can become the best king ever, he finally gets his chance one day when his uncle suddenly decides to pass the crown on to him. Portmanteau Couple Name: Invoked in-universe, when Xixi dubs the King Julien and Crimson couple the extremely awkward sounding "Cring Msulien". Polar Opposite Twins: While Clover is serious, strict and paranoid, Crimson is easy going and fun-loving. Musical Theme Naming: "Crimson and Clover", after the Tommy James and the Shondells song. Gold Digger: Clover accuses Crimson of being this, citing many past relationships she's ended abruptly once her boyfriends had nothing left. 
Continuity Nod: Old Porcelainsides seems to have been recovered and repaired and now functions properly as a boat.until it's pointed out that marriage is forever.
Commitment Issues: Julien is keen on marrying Crimson. Bridezilla: Amusingly, it's Julien that ends up turning into this more than Crimson. To which Julien asks "You have an accent?" The same joke is then used at the end with Uncle King Julien. Accent Interest: Julien points out how exotic Crimson's accent is, despite Clover pointing out it's the same as hers. When Clover's fun-loving party animal twin sister Crimson comes to visit, she hits it off with King Julien right away, much to Clover's annoyance.
